About Agritopia In Gilbert, Arizona

We’re going to list the best places to eat at Agritopia, but first, a bit of history about the neighborhood. Agritopia is a planned, mixed-use community in Gilbert, Arizona. It was designed to encourage agrarianism, which is an ideology that supports the poor, specifically farmers, against the wealthy in society. Agrarians generally have a commitment to egalitarianism, however, you don’t have to be agrarian to live in Agritopia, you just have to be okay with a quirky, unique environment! There’s a farm feel throughout the neighborhood, with narrow streets, front porches, and low fences, to encourage neighborly socialization. It was developed in the 2000s by Joe Johnston on the site of his family farm. Onsight, there is a functioning farm, a community garden, and a private Christian school. In addition, there is a community center, retirement home, and four restaurants.

Restaurants

Joe’s Farm Grill

Of all the best places to eat at Agritopia, Joe’s Farm Grill is by far the most popular, and it’s easy to see why. The menu is extremely accessible while maintaining very high-quality standards for food, and never feeling juvenile. My favorite appetizer is the Garlic Fries, which are fries with olive oil, romano cheese, and fresh garlic and herbs. Make sure to pack a breath mint for those! As far as entrees go, there’s a wide selection. They have fantastic fried food, including their fried shrimp and chicken and waffles, but they also have delicious, juicy, pink burgers on golden buns. Their Detroit-style pan pizza is also a fairly popular pick, as well as their “low and slow” BBQ. Top it all off with some cheesecake and call it a meal!

Fire and Brimstone

Although Joe’s has some decent pan pizza, for good Italian sandwiches and pizza, you’re not going to beat Fire and Brimstone. If you’re looking for the best places to eat at Agritopia, you’re on the right track here. All their bread comes from Proof, a local bakery, and their sandwiches come with a side of chips, for classic, locally sourced Italian deli eats. Their pizza includes classics, as well as a build-your-own option, but it also includes some specialty pizzas. For example, The Big Dill, which is a garlic oil base, mozzarella, ricotta, dill pickles, buttermilk dressing, and fresh dill. For dessert, try the Cast Iron Skillet Cookies with vanilla ice cream or the Campfire S’mores Dip.

The Coffee Shop

If you’re in the area looking for the best places to eat at Agritopia for brunch, The Coffee Shop should absolutely be on your list. Not only do they have a wide variety of coffees and skillful baristas, but they also have a full breakfast menu. My favorite is the San Diegan. It’s an open-faced omelette that is topped with sour cream, bacon, breakfast potatoes, green onions, cheddar cheese, and feta cheese, and the flavor combination is unmatched. They also have a full lunch menu of sandwiches and paninis. My personal favorite panini is the Chicken Bacon Panini. It’s made with chipotle mayo, chicken, bacon, tomato, pepper jack cheese, and ranch, for a meaty, creamy panini with a kick.
